SHANNON HIEBERT

Shannon Hiebert, P.Geo., is the Manager of Firebag Reservoir Growth at Suncor Energy, where her team is responsible for all future pad development at Firebag, including growth projects and long-term development planning. She brings more than 15 years of experience in geophysics and reservoir development.

Since 2020, Shannon has served as a Subsurface Lead within Firebag Reservoir Development and Firebag Subsurface Engineering, where her responsibilities have included coordinating surface and subsurface inputs for Firebag growth and business planning, annual reserves evaluation, managing analytical forecasting for future SAGD pads, and collaborating with technical and leadership teams across the organization.

Prior to her current role, Shannon held positions at Suncor including Senior Geophysicist and Team Lead within the MacKay River SAGD and Transformational Growth groups. Her earlier industry experience includes geophysical roles at Penn West (2012–2014) and NuVista Energy (2009–2011), where she worked on structural and stratigraphic interpretation, seismic acquisition planning, geosteering, reservoir characterization, and multi-basin development projects across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Shannon currently volunteers as Posters Chair for GeoConvention (since 2022) and serves as President of the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG). She has also participated in Avatar Innovations’ Accelerator Program (2021), where she advanced a methane reduction technology concept selected for sponsorship.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics and a Minor in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calgary.
